The fascination of hunting

Bringing a piece of nature from Austria to the table

Hunting motifs still play a major role in art today. Whether in symphonies and string quartets, in painting and sculpture or in literature – people are magically drawn to the power of nature and animals. Our artists bring this magic to the ‘Hunting’ design with loving dedication and skilful brushstrokes on high-quality plates, cups, jugs, fine ceramic pots and accessories.

The ‘Hunting’ design is one of the most elaborate decors. The skilled ceramic painters are therefore given a great deal of creative freedom for the popular hunting motifs. This results in unique one-offs, designs and colour schemes. Whether animated hunting scenes, leaping stags, hunters and huntresses or motifs from nature – all products exude their own charm and yet fit together perfectly. ‘The wide variety of colours is particularly remarkable. Apart from the prefabricated hunter figures, colours, backgrounds and animals can be freely selected. It is always a pleasure for me to paint the scenes in this design freely and with great attention to detail,’ reports Silvia Auinger, one of the two painters of the ceramic series.

Motifs for keen hunters and collectors

The first Gmundner hunting designs were created around 1930, initially with hunters and huntresses, later patterns, forests and animals were added. To this day, every piece is characterised by great attention to detail, precise brushwork and artistic inspiration. This is why it often takes a painter more than an hour to complete a plate. But this effort pays off when you see the finished unique ceramic piece. Each piece is carefully crafted by hand and is unique. This is what makes the products so valuable.

Even personalised designs are possible. On request, we can customise the motifs according to your own wishes. The addition of a coat of arms or lettering as well as initials and sayings are also possible.
