Until 3 October 2026, Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur
EXHIBITION: VIENNA CERAMICS EDITION
The Vienna Ceramics Edition brings together international contemporary artists who are rethinking ceramics at the intersection of sculpture, concept and experimentation. In collaboration with Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur, strictly limited editions and ceramic objects have been created since 2022 as part of the Academy of Ceramics Gmunden
The Vienna Ceramics Edition builds on the tradition of the Wiener Werkstätte and the ‘Vereinigte Wiener und Gmundner Keramik’, which produced significant Art Nouveau ceramics under this label in Gmunden from 1913 onwards.
The editions now on display range from ceramic sculptures to object-like vessels painted by artists. Figurative and sculptural works explore questions of form, physicality and social themes. The designs are modelled by hand or developed digitally, prepared for moulds, cast, assembled, glazed and painted. Each edition is created in collaboration with the team at Gmundner Keramik — in the workshops, in the laboratory and together with the apprentices — and combines artistic vision with precision craftsmanship.
Editions by the artists:
Peter Baldinger (AT), Julia Beliaeva (UA), Maria Kulikovska (UA), Jakob Lena Knebl (AT), Kim Simonsson (FI), Rosi Steinbach (AT), Elmar Trenkwalder (AT) & Erwin Wurm (AT).
With a signed certificate, available from Gmundner Keramik
MARMORSCHLÖSSL BAD ISCHL
EDITION Special editions are also being produced in collaboration with Gmundner Keramik for the exhibitions at the Marmorschlössl in Bad Ischl — including works by Erwin Wurm, Jakob Lena Knebl and Ai Weiwei, who developed a site-specific installation featuring a ceramic series of Wehrmacht helmets. Erwin Wurm’s glazed ceramic cucumber on an oak plinth combines sculptural presence with his characteristic humour, as well as an exploration of the body, everyday life and social perception. With *Big Little Dancer*, Jakob Lena Knebl transforms Edgar Degas’s famous dancer into a distinct contemporary visual language. The work combines partially glazed ceramics with textiles.
