Now, this long-established manufacturer is embarking on a new chapter, enlisting the support of one of the world’s best-known technology experts. In Kevin Scott, Chief Technology Officer of the US corporation Microsoft and founder of the innovation firm Behind the Tech Labs, Gmundner Keramik has found a partner who, at first glance, seems to come from a completely different world. Yet this is precisely what makes this collaboration so appealing: it brings together centuries-old craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology.

It is worth noting that Kevin Scott is not only coming to Gmunden as one of the most influential managers in the USA. He also brings with him a personal passion for ceramics. In his spare time, he works at the potter’s wheel himself: “Ceramics have fascinated me for years – I make pottery myself. Here, I can combine this passion with technology and, above all, support young people on their journey,” says Scott. This is another reason why the partnership is intended to extend far beyond technical innovations. A key focus is on support and training. In collaboration with schools and educational institutions, partnerships, workshops, degree projects and so-called ‘Tech Days’ are planned. Young people should experience how craftsmanship and technology can enrich one another.
This approach is also underpinned by the vision of Behind the Tech Labs. The Austrian company has set itself the goal of combining traditional ceramic craftsmanship with innovation, driving forward sustainable production methods and creating new opportunities for the industry.
