For over 500 years, Gmundner Keramik has stood for high-quality craftsmanship that is deeply rooted in Austrian tradition. In the picturesque town of Gmunden, in the centre of the idyllic Salzkammergut region, all pieces are still made by hand. Every product that leaves the manufactory is unique - moulded, painted and finished by experienced painters and ceramists. This high standard of quality and originality makes Gmundner Keramik a flagship of Austrian culture and lifestyle.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AND MANUFACTURE: QUALITY FROM A MASTER'S HAND
The ceramics are produced in a complex process that involves over 60 work steps and is largely done by hand. From moulding and glazing to detailed painting - each phase requires skilled craftsmanship and a great deal of experience. In particular, the "flaming" of ceramics, a technique in which characteristic, organic patterns are applied by hand, is an art in itself, requires two years of training and was recognised as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2021.
LOCATION AUSTRIA: A HERITAGE WITH A FUTURE
Gmunden has been a centre of Austrian ceramic art for centuries. The region itself offers ideal conditions for the craft: skilled painters and ceramists are trained here and help to ensure that production techniques are passed down through the generations. The Academy of Ceramics, founded in 2022, actively promotes this exchange of knowledge - an innovative format that further deepens the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art. Despite its roots in tradition, Gmundner Keramik remains a company that looks to the future. Modern designs complement the classic versions. Through creative collaborations such as with Studio Vivienne Westwood as well as inspirations from distant cultures, as can be seen in the Africa collection, the cultural heritage is constantly growing. In addition, joint projects with renowned national and international artists such as Ai Weiwei, Kim Simonsson and Elmar Trenkwalder enrich the brand's identity.
A BRAND WITH RECOGNITION VALUE
Gmundner Keramik stands for traditional, exquisite tableware and at the same time embodies a piece of living Austrian culture. The unmistakable designs, above all the famous "Grüngeflammte", stand for quality and timeless tradition worldwide - and are passed on from generation to generation. Whether at the family dinner table, in upmarket restaurants or as an official award of the Austrian Music Theatre Prize - the carefully crafted pieces from Gmunden are a symbol of consistency and authenticity. The manufactory will therefore remain an ambassador of Austrian craftsmanship in the future.
